It’s time to shake off the challenges of 2020 and refocus. Take some time out, step back and appreciate everything that you have right now…
Every so often it’s a good idea to take a break and focus on yourself, for the good of your health. There’s so much happening in the world, and our own personal lives, that sometimes it’s difficult to see the positive, but it’s also a difficult thing to slow down and get out of our usual thinking patterns.
So, where to begin?
Start by slowing down
Clear your mind of stress by unplugging from technology and doing something that calms you down. Go for a walk, read a book, write your thoughts down in a journal, colour in. What did you enjoy doing as a child? Do that!
Be mindful. Mindfulness is the practice of clearing the mind while being present in the moment, not focusing on stressors but rather the task at hand. This can have a calming and meditative effect.
Try meditation. Meditation is the practice of disconnecting from your surroundings and reconnecting with yourself. Key is that you’re conscious of your breath and not letting your mind wander.
Remember that for as many things you feel negatively toward, there are just as many positives. Say thank you for the roof over your head, the comfy bed you sleep in, the warm clothes you wear, the food on your plate, the love of family and friends, and your good health.
In the long term
You want to maintain that thinking and keep up with your me / meditation time. The question is whether you will, faced with the fast pace and pressures of today’s world.
You may want to think about talking to a personal life coach. Life coaching is all about conversation – facilitating understanding, focus and intention, and ultimately providing practical action plans. It’s an approach to help find solutions and enjoy more positive experiences in life.
If a personal life coach isn’t for you, you’ll need to be diligent about carving out time for yourself and doing things that calm your mind.
